: : The True Definition Of 'Man'

Every little boy's dream is to become a 'man'. He spends his entire childhood longing for the moment he will be recognized as a 'man'. Over the course of one's boyhood, this concept of 'manhood' is formed, fashioned, and molded by a series of societal factors (ie. family, peers, tradition, mass media, etc.). The law defines it by age, psychologists define it by stage, and the media define it by muscle and brawn. Gradually, one develops a concept of 'manhood' based on a combination of these social definitions. The issue is, the only truth that exists is that which God declares to be so. This means that all of our truth comes from His Word -- the Bible. Unfortunately, most don't model their concept of 'manhood' from the Scriptures. As a result, the concept of 'manhood' has become perverted and distorted by the sinfulness of mankind.

As stated earlier, we must look to God's Word for our definition of 'manhood'. Any other basis than this is tainted by the falleness of man and is, therefore, false. God reveals this concept of 'manhood' throughout His Sripture. He shows us by the example of many (God the Father, Adam, David, Jesus, Paul, etc.) and he explains to us in plain word. We, as men of faith, are to pursue all of the attributes and aspects that make a true 'man' -- defined and exemplified by the Scriptures. I pray that you will wholeheartedly chase after true 'manhood' with all that is in you and totally forsake your empty pursuit of worldly masculinity.

Grace and peace.

: : Welcome

Welcome to the >Mere Ministries' Blog. We exist to encourage guys to pursue masculinity according to the Scriptures. Biblical masculinity is characterized by personal holiness, spiritual vigilance, knowledge of Scripture and truth, steadfastness, and strength (1 Cor 15:13). This is obtained through continual submission to the Spirit and self-discipline. The Bible makes a clear distinction between a boy/child and a man (1 Cor 13:11). There is an explicit difference in the way that boys and men speak, think, and reason. By examining the Scriptures and seeking truth, Biblical masculinity can be obtained. This blog is intended to be a tool to aid in that pursuit. Our prayer is that you may be encouraged and challenged by the things you read here.

Grace and peace.
